Glenmorangie – Three New Travel Retail Expressions
Just arrived at Whisky Boys HQ a box of treats and three fabulous Glenmorangie Whisky samples.
The box included samples of the Glenmorangie Whisky in the travel exclusive range. Together with a personalized travel journal, ingredients to create The Tribute cocktail and sweet treats to pair with each expression. This could be a grand afternoon. These three drams are the creation of Dr Bill Lumsden, Director of Distilling., Each Whisky distilled in the tallest copper stills in Scotland.
Let’s have a closer look at these new Whiskies.
First up is the 12 Year Old ‘Accord’. This Whisky was aged in both bourbon and Oloroso sherry casks.
Let’s taste.
Glenmorangie ‘Accord’ – 12 Year Old Highland Single Malt Scotch Whisky 43% Alc/vol 1 Litre
Colour…Fiery redhead
Nose…I found a rich and treacly nose, cinder toffee, plump raisins, fruity notes of stewed apples and rhubarb covered in thick custard, vanilla dairy ice cream.
Taste…From the word go it became clear this was no ordinary dram, sweet, thick and comforting, imagine opening a box of brand new leather riding boots, steamed treacle sponge pudding and sherry soaked raisins in an almond cake, dark cherries in milk chocolate, fun fair toffee apples.
Finish…Long and sweet, sherry cask stave with some light spices sitting atop.
Available exclusively in airports worldwide. In Heathrow airport it is priced at £59.00
Up next is the 14 Year Old ‘Elementa’. This 14 Year Old Whisky was finished in new charred oak casks.
Let’s taste.
Glenmorangie ‘Elementa’ – 14 Year Old Highland Single Malt Scotch Whisky, 43% Alc/vol 1 litre
Colour…Mariner’s bell
Nose…Clean and fresh, woody spices, ginger and cinnamon apple pie, ripe mandarin orange segments,
Taste… Spices danced around my palate, there is no doubt that spices are in charge, nutmeg, peppercorns, cardamom, cloves, star anise are in there, there are some sweet notes to be found soft ripe fruits, milk chocolate sprinkled with crushed chillies.
Finish…medium to long finish, the spices and sweetness mingle well, quite drying.
Available exclusively in airports worldwide. In Heathrow airport it is priced at £68.00.
Next we have the 16 Year Old ‘The Tribute’.
Let’s taste.
Glenmorangie ‘The Tribute’ – 16 Year Old Highland Single Malt Scotch Whisky, 43% Alc/vol 1 litre
Colour…Pagoda copper
Nose…Delicate and fragile, scented potpourri of dried flowers, perfumed talcum powder, opening a fresh growbag, pick and mix sweets, honey and a hint of Pernod.
Taste…A smooth Glenmorangie sweetness, lemon meringue pie, peach melba sprinkled with crushed mixed nuts, a slight bitter citrus note, Scottish tablet.
Finish… Medium finish, only on the finish do I get a vanilla sweetness interlaced with a distant hint of peat, a very complex finish.
Available exclusively in airports worldwide. In Heathrow airport it is priced at £85.00
A fantastic trio from Dr Bill Lumsden, another triumph from all At Glenmorangie.
