50% ~ Ex-Oloroso butts & Ex-Pedro Ximenes Hogsheads ~ 11yo ~ Blended Malt

This small batch was drawn from the latest refresh of the SMWS blended malt solera. 135.41 – Arclight

56.3% ~ 2nd Fill Ex-Bourbon Barrel ~ 8yo ~ Highland

A massive and immensely weighty nose that began with carbolic acidity, tar, charred bacon rashers in hot oil and English mustard whipped together with wasabi and horseradish. Then boiler smoke, petrol, iodine, hot kelp in the sunshine and a deafening peat note. Water did little to calm things down. Lots of carbolic soap, lanolin, wood ash, hot BBQ coals…read more

113.53 – A Bit of a Bibelot

62.6% ~ 1st Fill Ex-Bourbon Barrel ~ 11yo ~ Speyside

Our noses encountered caramel, foamy shrimps and bananas, Crunchie bars and marmalade, combined with toasted coconut, cinnamon stick and carpentry workshops. On tasting it, we got salted caramel in dark chocolate, iced cinnamon buns and orange liqueurs; then warmer flavours of ginger snaps, pepper, leather, wood and wasabi…read more

Have you ever sprinkled on your sweet porridge some cask char or put vanilla pods into a cigar tube – no, well you have not lived. Have you ever tried the agricultural rum from Haiti called Clairin made from sugar cane juice, sweet, earthy, fiery with mineral and medicinal notes but at the same time a svelte, silky palate with plenty of vanilla and spices like saffron….read more

80.26 – Casual Biscuit Scoffing

59.9% ~ 1st Fill Ex-Bourbon Hogshead ~ 9yo ~ Speyside

An easy and entertaining nose we thought, giving impressions of old custard creams rattling around a biscuit tin. Then shoe polish, new leather, pollens and yellow flowers. Easy, simple and charming. Water brought out canvass, crumbled oatcakes, runny honey, crushed nettles and lemon curd. The mouth displayed an initial richness of olive oil, then a sweeter aspect with icing sugar….read more

73.127 – In The Mood

61.8% ~ 1st Fill Ex-Bourbon Barrel ~ 10yo ~ Speyside

A floral aroma of verbena plants mixed with red and orange marigold before we opened a box of apple and cinnamon muesli. On the palate a spicy sweet chilli sensation to start was followed by lemon curd served with a tart rhubarb compote….read more

63.87 – Dreamsicle-Creamsicle

54.0% ~ 1st Fill Ex-Bourbon Barrel ~ 19yo ~ Speyside

We submerged our candy dipstick into a tropical sherbet fizz, mango, papaya banana and dragon fruit before we enjoyed poached pears with vanilla and cinnamon. Next, we scooped cardamon whipped cream over our chai spiced apples and enjoyed them with dark chocolate strawberry creams with a boozy creamsicle float – orange soda, whipped cream with vodka and vanilla ice cream….read more

58.7% ~ 1st Fill Ex-Bourbon Barrel ~ 10yo ~ Highland

19.67 – Schmoozing in a Greenhouse

57.5% ~ 1st Fill Ex-Bourbon Barrel ~ 18yo ~ Highland

Initial nosing suggested this was a lighter example than other casks from this batch. Some lovely, and very elegant, notes of honeysuckle, aged sweet wines and wet autumnal leaves greeted us. Reduction brought more floral vibes of hot greenhouses….read more

£90.00

4.299 – Hard Boiled Dregs

60.9% ~ 1st Fill Ex-Bourbon Barrel ~ 13yo ~ Highland

A sooty and grubbier than usual example we felt. Initial notes of sooty coal scuttles and puffer smoke were detected. Then oily coastal aspects, BBQ coals, distant peat smoke, crushed beach pebbles, sand and tarry rope. With water it became more aromatic and complex, with bandages, smoked sea salt, caraway, lemon rinds….read more
