After sixteen years in a bourbon hogshead we shifted this into a first-fill PX barrique. A light and totally charming aroma full of fabrics, wool, icing sugar, pink marshmallow and candy floss greeted us at first nosing. Nosing neat the colour ‘yellow-orange’ came to mind with pictures of mango flavoured Turkish delight, saffron, peeling a satsuma and lemon butter biscuits. The initial nose was sweet, complex and subtle exotic. Unfolding notes of natural tar extract, iodine drops, TCP and warm Bakelite. Then bigger aromas of black pepper, smoked olive oils, leather peat, brine and pickled black olives all emerged.
