9.183 – Eternal Sunshine of the Flawless Kind
62.3% ~ Re-Fill Ex-Bourbon Hogshead ~ 24 yo ~ Speyside
Bright and fruity aromas encompassed baked banana, apple slices and poached pears with sultana cake and fruit and nut chocolate. Then a vibrant ray of orange oil melted cinnamon butter and fudge onto figs and grapes in a wicker basket. Rich fruits continued onto the palate with baked pineapple and melon before ginger and apple crumble….read more

128.14 – Dark Choclate Crémeux
61.4% ~ 2nd Fill Ex-Oloroso Sherry Butt ~ 7yo ~ Welsh
A wonderful golden to red-brown colour similar to a gemstone called Tiger’s eye caught our attention at first. 44.137 – Funky Rhubarb Rum Baba
52.1% ~ Re-Fill Ex-Bourbon Barrel ~ 16yo ~ Speyside
The nose neat was all over the place; sheep’s wool, beeswax, balsa wood, tomato plants, nettle tea and toasted almond slices. On the palate, however, we all enjoyed a funky rhubarb rum baba with roasted rhubarb and rhubarb cream with a bone dry, yet sweet and fresh eucalyptus finish….read more

38.31 – The Magic Is So Strong
53.9% ~ 2nd Fill Ex-Bourbon Barrel ~ 26yo ~ Speyside
Miraculously we were transported to the Caribbean, to be precise to the island of Antigua, and there to Nelson’s dockyard in the marina called English Harbour with, the non-existing, one o’clock gun being fired – imagination is a wonderful thing! We enjoyed a scoop of blood orange and honey sorbet as well as rum and raisin ice cream on a chocolate waffle cone….read more

35.264 – Midnight Marmalade
46.1% ~ 1st Fill Ex-Oloroso Hogshead ~ 33yo ~ Speyside
It was a dark night and in the moonlight shadows lurked hazelnuts, walnuts and burnt orange skin. Soy sauce merged with maple syrup and oozed over the remains of bruised apples, smoked ham and linseed oil. Chewy flavours prowled around dark malted rye bread covered with marmalade, nutmeg and molasses before hot cross buns fell victim to banana flambé…read more

24.141 – Leather-Bound Exuberance
50.7% ~ Re-Fill Ex-Bourbon Barrel ~ 30yo ~ Speyside
A soft and distinctive nose journeyed through a library of ripe fruit and leather-bound books covered with a fine layer of antique dust. Apple crumble and ripe pears joined varnished wooden shelves to suggest aged calvados before pineapple cake, lemon sponge and vanilla gave a bakery appeal. The palate deepened with wild strawberries dipped in dark chocolate and banana flambé…read more

7.252 – Perpetual Cake
59.8% ~ 1st Fill Ex-Bourbon Barrel ~ 16yo ~ Speyside
The distinct aroma of marzipan, glace cherries and soft icing on a cherry Bakewell joined the soft fruits of mango and honeydew melon before dark berries descended us through vanilla sponge cake and into sticky toffee pudding. Rum and raisin ice cream then poured over salted caramel and chocolate bourbon biscuits while fragrant notes from pencil shavings…read more

113.34 – Magically Mediterranean
50.4% ~ Re-Fill Ex-Bourbon Hogshead ~ 30yo ~ Speyside
Exquisite, elegant and graceful were the first comments after a long period of silence. We detected soft-spoken aromas of sweet tobacco, leather bound books, iced lemon tea as well as wheat fields on a late-summer’s day. On the palate imagine juicy, fresh figs chopped into goat cheese arugula salad with delicate balsamic vinaigrette…read more

70.42 – Elegant, Dark and Stormy
60.2% ~ Re-Fill Ex-Bourbon Barrel ~ 27yo ~ Highland
A wealth of sweet cereals, soft waxes and mature, herbal complexity. Lots of dried flowers, hibiscus tea, dried lime peel, thyme, rosemary and things like canvas and baking parchment. We found it superbly elegant, deep and enticing. With water the aromas become fresh, crisper, more estery and elegantly coastal. Lots of eucalyptus resin, pinecones, aged yellow Chartreuse, moss, lemon cough drops…read more

35.271 – Encased in Leather
56.4% ~ 1st-Fill Toasted Hogshead ~ 25yo ~ Speyside
Soft leather wrapped around toasted pine nuts, almonds and praline before teasing us with dried prunes, bruised apples and a silky layer of linseed oil. Then notes of coffee and molasses combined with dark chocolate on a bed of baked orange skin and walnuts. A dash of water brought a sensual synthesis of plums, pine nuts and salted caramel between silky sheets of cinnamon butter and fudge…read more

9.181 – Continuous Evolution
55.6% ~ 1st-Fill Ex-Oloroso Hogshead ~ 24yo ~ Speyside
Back in 2016, we combined selected hogsheads from distillery number 9 before returning the single malt to first-fill oloroso hogsheads. This is one such hogshead – and the cask signature is clear – brown sugar, Madeira molasses cake, raisins, sultanas and treacle smeared on oak all appear on the nose. The palate finds typical flavours of syrup of figs, malt extract, sherry trifle…read more
