Campbeltown Loch – Blended Malt Scotch Whisky

I miss the old Campbeltown Loch blend, it was a firm favourite of mine.

On my recent trip to Campbeltown, I purchased the new Campbeltown Loch Whisky, which is a Blended Malt Scotch Whisky.

This Blended Malt uses five malts from the region’s three distilleries (Springbank, Glen Scotia and Glengyle) For the maturation they use Bourbon and Sherry casks. This bottling is blended and bottled at Springbank Distillery.

I thoroughly enjoyed my recent brief trip to Campbeltown staying at the fabulous Ardshiel Hotel.  The Kintyre peninsula is a beautiful part of Scotland and a must-see for the Whisky lover.  If you decide to visit, I can highly recommend a stay at the delightful Ardshiel Hotel

Whilst staying in this exceptional hostelry I was fortunate enough to enjoy a selection of fine Whiskies and excellent food in the company of Jacqueline, my wife and the two owners of the Ardshiel, Flora and Marion (delightful ladies). One of the things I most enjoy when visiting Ardshiel is that you can be confident you will always receive excellent food and a great selection of quality drams.

I also managed to visit Glen Scotia and Springbank Distilleries where some purchases were made including this Blended Malt Scotch Whisky.

Let’s now have a wee taste.

Campbeltown Loch Blended Malt Scotch Whisky – 46% Alc/vol 70cl

Colour…Polished conkers.

Nose…I am certainly on the beach, salty sea water on pebbles, some mild spices, dark honey sweetness, and a slightly viscous mouth feel.

Taste…On the palate comes some mild sweet peat smoke, mechanics oily rags, cereal notes, more mild spices (ginger) runny toffee, rum and raisin cake, with a teardrop of water brought out smoked pineapple and exotic fruits charred on the BBQ.

Finish…Medium to long finish, more peat smoke.

A very fine dram and with change from £40.00  this is well priced and easy drinking to be savoured with friends.

Campbeltown is a great destination with three grand distilleries with tours. There are some fine hotels and quality local food, fabulous walks and great golf in Machrihanish. Campbeltown also has its own historic Picture House. An ideal destination for a short break or a long weekend.
