The Lakes Distillery – Bal Masque
This is the fourth release in The Whiskymaker’s Edition series.
For the maturation the distillery only used French oak casks. These casks are famous for having many compounds and tannins. This Single Malt Whisky is non-chill filtered, bottled at the natural colour and 54% ABV.
The Lakes Distillery use Oloroso and Pedro Ximenez sherry casks for the vast majority of the maturation of their spirit. This maturation gives a base of dried fruit, ginger and a firm tannic grip.
The use of French oak casks gives a new aroma and flavour to the traditional lakes style of Whisky
Let’s have a wee taste.
The Lakes Distillery – The Whiskymaker’s Edition, Bal Masque, Single Malt Whisky, 54% Alc/vol 70 cl.
Colour…Antique French horn
Nose…Apples, pears, lemon bonbons, vanilla panna cotta, mild mixed spices, quite rich and elegant.
Taste…The delicate side of my palate found raspberry ripple ice cream, vanilla sponge cake, mouthwatering juicy fruits, crushed mixed nuts coated with spiced sugar, not too complicated but ticked all the boxes.
Finish…Medium to long finish, fruit remains in charge with the light spices dancing, just like a hug in a mug.
This is quite a delicate and sweet dram, go easy with the water, ideal dram to take with you on a sunny summer picnic.
This unaged Single Malt is priced at £65.00, which I think is quite fair for this quite unique dram, if you get a chance to taste, I think you will be surprised by the aroma, flavour and fruitiness that you will find in your glass.
