Glengoyne – A Special Lockdown Package
Last week at Whisky Boys HQ I received a package with some wonderful contents. Care and attention was taken in the bringing them together. Someone has thought long and hard on how to help lovers of Glengoyne to pass some time during the lockdown. A bottle of 18 year old Glengoyne and quite a difficult jigsaw depicting Glengoyne Distillery from a painting by John Lowrie Morrison (Jolomo).
At this point I have to make a confession I don’t have the patience for jigsaws. So I had to draft in my 14 year old granddaughter Carla, she is a whizz with jigsaws and managed to complete it in in under 4 hours. With the jigsaw done I now had plenty of time to taste the 18 year old dram. If you guys at home wish to try this 500 piece jigsaw just go to Glengoyne website and all you have to pay is £10.00 for the puzzle when purchasing any 70cl bottle.
Glengoyne Distillery less than one hour drive from Glasgow, is in a grand location at the base of the Burnfoot Hills. This Distillery has close on 100,000 visitors per year to do tours/tastings and enjoy the great selection of expressions in their well stocked visitor centre/shop.
Let’s open the bottle and have a taste.
Glengoyne 18 Year Old Highland Single Malt Scotch Whisky – 43% Alc/vol 70 cl
Colour… Golden Retreiver
Nose…Rich and treacly, brandy snaps and some sandalwood
Taste…Caramel, Seville orange marmalade, substantial and mouth filling, sherry soaked raisins, vanilla custard, a nibble at the Christmas cake, very rounded
Finish…Medium to long finish, gentle wood/oak spice, quite a delight
This is quite a dram, an 18 year old of this quality and complexity for less than £95.00, it’s a bargain.
Well done to Robbie Hughes (Distillery Manager) and his team, this one is a bit of a triumph.
The Whisky Boys have visited Glengoyne on many occasions and look forward to a revisit once all these difficult times are over.
