Whisky Tasting – A Remarkable and Rare Glenury Royal
Now we have a special tasting tonight, thanks to Pat Roberts of Cognis Public Relations in London who sent us a good sample.
So we opened the bottle of:-
This is a very limited edition as there were only just of 1400 bottles released. Matured in American Oak Casks which were filled in 1970. The recommended price for this old dram is £499.00
We are sad to say that this distillery closed in 1983 and later some parts demolished and the rest turned into flats, a sad ending for a fabulous old distillery.
Jim’s tasting
Nose…A timber yard full of oak, strong vanilla fudge cake, children’s opal fruit sweets, a background whiff of smoke.
Taste…Quite rich, Fry’s chocolate cream bar, oak, sweet and fruity, light bbq fire smoke, a little bitter espresso note.
Finish…Delightfully long and woody, drying, a great after dinner dram giving some sweet and bitter notes, a delight.
Score…4.5 Corks
Nicola’s tasting
Nose…Vanilla marshmallows, dark coffee syrup, dark wood stain.
Taste…Sweet cigar smoke, coffee beans, bitter chocolate, minty lemon drops, chocolate walnut whip.
Finish…Long, oaky and smoky.
Score…4 Corks
Overall score 4.5 Corks
What a fabulous dram, an ideal after dinner dram, but not after every dinner, this is one for a special occasion dinner with family and very close friends, sipping slowly with just a teardrop of water if you wish.
