This malt is part of Diageo’s Classic Malts selection which also includes the other fabulous Islay distillery of Caol Ila.
Lagavulin Distillery on the fabulous Isle of Islay one of Jim’s most favourite places in the world sits on the southern half of the island and is the middle distillery in what we like to call the trio of smoke and peat, (Laphroaig, Lagavulin and Ardbeg) and these distilleries all within walking distance of each other produce the fullest bodied, robust, complex, peatiest and smokiest of all the Islay Malts.,
Probably the most pungent of all Islay malts, Lagavulin is not for the faint-hearted.
This malt can be found on the shelves of most supermarkets and certainly on line and at your specialist Whisky shop, slightly on the down side this bottle will set you back £40 or their about, but as far as Jim is concerned well worth every penny and there is always a bottle on the drinks cabinet.
If you go to their website you will find all about not only Lagavulin but all of Diageo’s Classic Malts.
A warm welcome awaits at the Lagavulin Distillery Visitors’ Centre, open April – October for guided tours.
My favorite of the “smoke and peat” ones, for sure. As you, always have a bottle in my cabinet, or two as soon as the first one hits the half empty state. Great whiskey!
