Malt Whisky of the Month – March 2011

The Glenlivet 15 Year Old Speyside Single Malt Scotch Whisky, French Oak Reserve – 40% Alc/vol, 70cl.

This iconic dram is so much smoother than the Glenlivet 12 Year Old (this is not to say that the 12 year old is poor, it is also a grand dram) and is finished in the casks that are used to mature the finest brandies/cognacs that France can provide. The combination of Scotch Whisky and some French Oak makes one think of the Auld Alliance, and there is nothing wrong with that.

This wee dram is one of Nicola’s favourites, and in her eyes you can’t go wrong with a Speyside Whisky.

You may be able to find this in some of your supermarkets, but certainly in your specialist Whisky shops and some of the online shops too.  This is an ultra smooth dram that is ideal as an aperitif, and if you give it as a gift then the recipient will know that you have taken some time and that you really care.

Remember when you buy a bottle to tell them that the Whisky Boys recommended this dram.
