Glen Moray – Elgin Heritage 15 Year Old
This dram comes from one of The Whisky Boys favourite distilleries. Whenever Nicola and I visit Speyside without fail we call into this grand Elgin distillery.
The Distillery has a great cafe and a very well stocked shop. Theys also do a variety of tours and one of the highlights is Warehouse No. 1 where you can nose a selection of casks including bourbon, sherry, ale, cognac, red wine, white wine, port to just mention a few.
The Whisk Boys have tasted many expressions from Glen Moray and one of our favourites is the 15 year old which is part of the Elgin Heritage Collection.
This expression has been matured in American oak and Spanish sherry casks, making quite a balanced dram.
Let’s open the bottle and have a taste.
Glen Moray – 15 Year Old, Elgin Heritage, Speyside Single Malt Scotch Whisky, 40% Alc/vol 70 cl
Colour…Polished copper
Nose…The aroma of being greeted by an old friend, delicate fruit, coconut with dark chocolate with sherry soaked sultanas.
Taste…Spicy chilli, treacle tart and banana bread, a dark chocolate ganache with orange peel and a tangy spiciness.
Finish...Flavours fill the palate with spice and chocolate, not forgetting the influence of the sherry cask maturation.
This is quite an exceptional dram, priced at less than £50.00 which makes this fine dram very accessable to every single malt lover.
I loved it’s delicate nature and how easy it is to sit down and nose for several minutes and sip slowly with only a tear drop of water added.
I am currently enjoying another dram from the Heritage family and that is the 12 Year Old.
Well done to all in the Glen Moray distillery for again producing an outstanding dram, thanks from The Whisky Boys and hoping to see you all soon.
