Lakes Distillery – The Whiskymaker’s Edition, Colheita
Just arrived at Whisky Boys HQ is a sample of the new lakes Distillery expression, The Colheita.
The Lakes Distillery is located at Bassenthwaite Lake, Cumbria, CA13 9SJ, a beautiful part of the Lake District.
Founded in 2014 and equipped with two stills with a capacity of 450,000 litres of pure alcohol. In their early days, to create a bit of cash flow, in 2013 they launched a British blended Whisky called One.
The Lakes Distillery does not only distil Whisky the are distilling The Lakes Gin and vodka. The distillery has a selection of tours, check their website for availability and times.
This Limited Edition has an outturn of 5,400 bottles released in the UK.
This Lakes Single Malt is matured in the finest Colheita Port casks and by a very small proportion of Bourbon barrels.

Colour…Wild fox tail
Nose…Elegant, mixed fresh, ripe berries, prune juice, figs and a citrus burst.
Taste…A cinnamon Danish, fresh oak, sticky toffee pudding, hint of Armagnac, pineapple cubes, chocolate coated cherries and plum tart sprinkled with burnt toffee flakes.
Finish…Long and sweet, a buttery mouthfeel and a mild cigar smoke aftertaste.
I have a wee word of warning, do not add any more than a teardrop of water or you will dilute most of the aromas and taste into a very mediocre dram.
Drink it neat to experience the true flavours of this fine dram.
