The Dalmore at the Double

Tonight I have not one but two Dalmore’s to taste, looking forward to this duo.

The Dalmore Distillery sits on the shores of the Cromarty Firth and has some of the oldest Whisky stocks in the world.

The core range consists of 12, 15, 18, 25 year old (the 25 year old has a limited run of 3000 per annum) also in this range is the 1263 King Alexander III together with the Cigar Malt. But, tonight I will not be tasting any of these, I am having a taste of the distillery 2015 Exclusive and the new limited edition expression The Dalmore 21.

Lets open the first one.

The Dalmore Distillery Exclusive 2015 – Highland Single Malt Scotch Whisky, 48% Alc/vol 70cl

Colour…Polished copper mugdalmoredistillery-exclusive

Nose…Fresh and clean on the nose, sweet like a berry  compote, crushed nuts on an unseasoned wooden tray.
Taste…More nuts on the palate, but, now with icing sugar coated sherry soaked sultanas, now someone has burst open a large Spanish orange, quite seductive.
Finish…Sweet and fruit linger the longest, now I get some vanilla that seems to have been hiding in the background.

These wonderful flavours comes from a careful maturation using Port, Moscatel and Madeira then finished in first fill bourbon barrels.

Now for my second dram of the night The Dalmore 21.  This single malt is new expression from “The Nose” himself, Richard Paterson, Dalmore’s Master Distiller.

The Dalmore 21 is firstly matured in American white oak and finished in first-fill Matusalem oloroso sherry butts from the Gonzalez Byass bodega in Jerez, now that has got my mouth watering so lets open the bottle and have a wee taste.

The Dalmore 21 – Highland Single Malt Scotch Whisky 42%Alc/vol 70cl

Colour…Autumn oak leafdalmore-21

Nose…A luxurious nose,Dundee marmalade, pencil shavings, soft leather bag holding mixed fruit and some sponge cake.
Taste…Sweet Christmas spices, quite robust and creamy, bottom of my espresso cup, chocolate covered raisins.
Finish…Long with lingering spices and a little warmth like coming from a bottle of LBV Port.

This one is outstanding, another triumph for Richard Paterson.

This dram is available globally at certain specialist retailers which include Harrods, the only slight down side is that a bottle will set you back £350.00 and there are only 8,000 bottles available.  If you see a bottle in your favourite Whisky bar, be sure to order a dram, you will not be disappointed.

These two drams were such a delight, what now do I pick for my nightcap later tonight, decisions, decisions.
