SIA – Blended Scotch Whisky

Today Nicola and I are tasting a new Blended Scotch Whisky which currently is only available in the US.

SIA pronounced “SEE-a” and is Gaelic for six, and the simple reason for the name, is it happens to be Carin Luna-Ostaseski, the founders favourite number.

As it’s Scotch we all know it must be distilled, matured and bottled in Scotland to retain the name, this is done on Carins behalf by Glasgow’s own Douglas Laing & Co Ltd, and then imported into the USA by Spirits Imports. Inc.

Carin’s love of Whisky began many years ago after trying Scotch for the first time and finding it a little too strong. After many years of research at various Whisky tasting, Carin decided to blend a Scotch Whisky perfect for a palate who loves the softer side of Scotch – Sia was born.

We opened the bottle and poured…

SIA – Blended Scotch Whisky, 43% Alc/vol. 75cl.sia-whisky

Colour…Golden glow

Nose…Buttered puff pastry, sweet corn, oranges and lemon crush, mild pepper spice note.
Taste….Creamy, mild salty peat smoke, generic sweetness, vanilla icing, flower stalks,
Finish…Medium to long finish, fresh with some runny caramel.

This is a fine and refreshing blend, it is an everyday dram, not too complex but a delight to sip. In the USA this bottle sells for around the $50.00 mark.

We suggest you visit their website www.siascotch.com to find out all about the journey from idea to the glass.

Loved your blog on SIA whisky. Shame that it’s not available outside the US. I tend to prefer stronger blends, but I’d love to give this a try.
