Glendronach, one of the earliest licensed distilleries and is fast approaching it’s 200th birthday. Founded by James Allardice a very inventive Scotsman who pioneered the art of wood finishing.

This cask strength Whisky was bottled last month ( November 2012 ) and the first batch was only 12,000 bottles. This new expression was designed to be an addition to the core range of 12, 15, 18, and 21 Year Old Vintages.

Let the tasting begin.

GlenDronach Highland Single Malt Scotch Whisky – Cask Strength Batch 1, Unaged, 54.8% Alc/vol 70cl.

Colour…Rich Golden Amberglendronach-cask-strength-batch-1

Jim’s Tasting

Nose…Plump sherried raisins, a little tobacco note, sweet honey.

Taste…Rich, dark and moist fruit cake, Terry’s chocolate orange, Jamaican iced ginger cake, a little sweet espresso, a delight.

Finish…Long and beautifully lingers, the plump raisins and the chocolate are still highlighted.

Score…4 Corks

Now was that a sweet and delicious dram? It certainly was. The Whisky Boys have to congratulate Billy Walker and all at GlenDronach from such a fine dram, it is a triumph.

This fine bottling will only set you back around £50.00 and for a cask strength single malt that is extremely reasonable. The Whisky Boys will be sure to have one as a staple in their cabinet.

Please visit GlenDronach’s website to find out more about this old distillery and all about the other expressions that are now available.
