Whisky Tasting – The Macallan Diamond Jubilee Bottle

The Whisky Boys were very pleased to have a sample of this very limited edition Whisky delivered a few weeks back.

We don’t have to let you know what has been happening over the last few weeks as the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee celebrations have filled the newspapers and the TV, and almost all distilleries have produced a celebratory bottling to commemorate.  Thanks Macallan for producing this lip smacking dram with iconic images on the fantastic bottle and box.

Lets have a sip or two.

The Macallan Diamond Jubilee – Highland Single Malt Scotch Whisky, 52% Alc/vol 70cl

This sherry cask matured bottling is limited to only 2012 and will be available at www.themacallan.com and also at the Macallan Distillery Visitor Centre, the price will be £350.00

Colour…Rich regal gold

Nicola’s Tasting

Nose…Maple syrup, honey roasted nuts, cheap milk chocolate, chocolate sponge cake.
Taste…Plump stewed raisins, cappuccino coffee (very milky), chocolate Bounty bar, burnt pancakes, tasted very homely and warming.
Finish…Long and toastie.

Score…3.5 Corks

Jim’s Tasting

Nose…Freshly sawn wood, honey and vanilla, a little nutmeg, Dundee marmalade, lightly sherried raisins.
Taste…Quite complex with a lot happening, rich fruit cake, marzipan, warm spices, add only a teardrop of water and it smooth’s out to an elegant dram.
Finish… Long and ever so satisfying.

Score…4 Corks

Overall score…4 Corks

The Whisky Boys loved this dram, but at £350.00 will many others actually taste this fine sherried Whisky or will many of the bottles go to investors and collectors.  So if any if any of our readers get a chance to taste this Macallan then grab it with both hands, remember it gets better with just the smallest gesture of water.
