William Larue Weller (2009 Release) Uncut & Unfiltered Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey
William Larue Weller (2009 Release) Uncut & Unfiltered Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey 67.4% Alc/vol, 75cl
Bourbon number five in our special tasting month. This bottling is part of the W. L. Weller Antique Collection.
William Larue Weller (a Bourbon Whiskey pioneer in the early days of Kentucky Bourbon) is a brand of Wheated Bourbon which was once owned by Stitzel-Weller Distilling Co., and now owned by Sazerac Co., and is distilled at the Buffalo Trace Distillery at Frankfort in Kentucky.
This Bourbon has the highest in Alc/vol that we have tasted this month and is the third bottle to come out of or have an association with Buffalo Trace.
Lets open the bottle and have a wee taste.
Colour…Rich dark Jamaica rum
Jim’s Tasting
Nose…Very sweet, lots of oak, with some thick black coffee in the background.
Taste…Sweet and creamy, very clean, some rum, raisins and sultanas, a little floral herbs peeping in, all this just leaves your palate warm.
Finish…Medium finish with sweet oak, leaves you asking for another taste, a splendid Bourbon.
Score…3 Corks
Nicola’s Tasting
Nose… Over sweet and very powerful.
Taste…WOW, Rum and raisins galore, full of oak and fruit, delicious.
Finish…Medium, still hanging onto the rum and raisins.
Score..2.5 Corks
Overall score…3 Corks
That was a grand Bourbon full of flavour and a delight, this one could well be the best of our Bourbon Month tastings.
Jim and Nicola will now take a closer look at the gantry’s of any bar or restaurants we visit to check out their selection of Bourbons and will buy the odd one to keep our hand in and improve our tastings of this Kentucky dram.
Like all of drams we have tasted this month, this one also may only be available online or in specialist Whisky shops, search it out it is certainly worth a tasting.
When you buy a bottle tell them the recommendation came from the Whisky Boys.
Master of Malt, thanks for you sponsorship this month.
