This is the third of the three tastings (see tastings on Linkwood Whisky and Tomintoul Whisky) Dougie and I had this evening (Thursday 17th June 2010) and it is the one that we left for the last.
Berry Bros. & Rudd are Britain’s oldest wine and spirit merchant, trading from the same premises for over 300 years.

Built in 1846, Caol Ila is the largest of the Islay distilleries. With the majority of it’s production going for blending, but it’s single malts are fabulous.
Caol Ila (pronounced “Cull Eela”) is the Gaelic name for the Sound of Islay.

Colour…Golden straw
Dougie’s Tasting
Nose…Fresh wet grass with a touch of citrus, an Islay?????
Taste…Smooooooth, elegant and rich yet soft liquorice with notes of pear drops, what a surprise!
Finish…Medium to long, soft tingle and fruit sweetness all the way.
Score…4 corks
Jim’s Tasting
Nose…i think the angels have taken all the peat/smoke certainly not harsh with light fruits.
Taste…Very clean and as smooth as satin, a little seaweed and a touch of antiseptic ” what a dram”
Finish…Medium, ever so grand and elegant, is their a better way to end the day than with a large dram of this ever so special Caol Ila

What a corker this was can these Islay drams do no wrong, we at Whisky Boys don’t thinks so.
Glad we left this 30 Year old till the end it was by far the best dram of the night.
