A couple of weeks ago here at Whisky Boys HQ I received the following samples:-
Glasgow Peated, 6 year old, 61.5% Alc/vol
Royal Brackla, 9 year old 57.6% Alc/vol
Royal Brackla, 18 year old, 55.8% Alc/vol
Croftengea, 7 year old, 60.6% Alc/vol (distilled at Loch Lomond Distillery)
Williamson, 13 year old, 54.4% Alc/vol (distilled at Laphroaig Distillery)
Tennessee Rye, 8 year old, 62.7% Alc/vol
Craigellachie, 15 year old, 54.2% Alc/vol
For this tasting I decided to pick two samples, my choices were the Williamson and the Croftengea.
Up first is the Williamson Whisky Mood ‘Bold’ Priced at £95.00
The colour of rich amber. On the nose there was a hint of smoke without any fire, salty, off shore a puffer is puffing, The palate was unsually sweet for a Laphroaig distillation, heathery flowers, newly opened first aid box, fruity, sherry soaked raisins, dark chocolate, with just a teardrop of water it really opens up, a delight of a dram. The finish was long with the sweetness lingering longest, more fruit, a little drying, a truly delightful dram.
Up next is the Croftengea Whisky Mood ‘Curious’ Priced at £74.00
The colour is that of Oaked Chardonnay, On the nose has the farmers fields just after his harvest, sweetness, rock pools and a busy harbour. On the palate comes some gentle sweet smoke, with a wasp wing drop of water brings in mixed herbs and the smoke is not going away. The finish is quite long, still getting the smoke and the farmers fields.
Yet another grand dram, I love the flavours and the complexity. Out of the two I think the Croftengea just edges it by the slimmest of margins.
I would suggest to all my readers to visit The Single Cask Companies website thesinglecask.co.uk to view their exciting range of Whiskies and also you can join the Single Cask family.
