Glen Moray – Warehouse 1 – Peated Rioja Cask Finish
We received a couple of weeks ago a few samples from one of The Whisky Boys favourite distilleries, Glen Moray.
The samples we received are:-
Double Cask – Port Cask Finish 40% Alc/vol
21 Year Old – Elgin Heritage – Portwood Finish 46.3% Alc/vol
Warehouse 1 – Rioja Cask Matured 8 Year Old – 59.8% Alc/vol
Warehouse 1 – Peated Rioja Cask Finish – 11 Year Old 58.8% Alc/vol
Out of all these samples the one that intrigued me the most was the Peated Rioja sample.
As anyone who knows me, I am a big fan of peated Whiskies.
I have to thank Iain Allan, Glen Moray Global Brand Ambassador and Rachael Tyrrell, Account Director of Burt Greener Communications for sending us these fine samples.
Let’s get down to some tasting.
This dram is non-chill filtered and of natural colour.
Colour…Rich and bright copper.
Nose…On the nose the peat is light and sweet, toffee, fruits from a garden orchard, beach bonfire in the distance,
Taste…A healthier taste of peat, quite dry, a rich fruitiness, light spiciness, a puff of white pepper, the Rioja gives this dram a lighter taste, an elegant dram, if adding water make sure it is only a teardrop.
Finish…Long and delightful, peat smoke is still holding court, the fruit sweetness and light spices are all still on show.
Well this has been one of my favourite tasting in a long time. Peaty, sweet and just a delight. This bottling has a retail price of £92.50, I think I need to get a bottle, it is just right up my street for peat content and complexity.
Thanks again Iain and Rachael.
