Glen Moray – Warehouse 1 – 1998 Barolo Finish
From one of The Whisky Boys’ favourite distilleries comes the second ‘Warehouse 1’ exclusive for 2021. The 1998 Barolo Finish.
Nestled on the edge of Elgin close to the River Lossie.
Glen Moray is one of my favourite distilleries, due to the many expressions, finishes, and limited editions which they produce.
Glen Moray has a fine visitor centre, shop, and cafe, tours are regular and daily. A trip to Speyside would not be complete without a visit to Glen Moray.
Iain Allan, Glen Moray’s Global Brand Ambassador says the following about The Barola Finish.
“Once again, our distillery team has bottled an absolute gem from Warehouse 1, their special place for experimentation, innovation and patience – time, as always, being one of the most important ingredients in creating our wonderful whiskies”.
“Our team searches the world for interesting and unusual casks, and they’re not afraid to use them to push the boundaries of flavour, as they have done with this very special 1998 Barolo Finish release”.
“It’s a joy of a dram, a superb combination of our distillery’s sweet, light, citrus style with deeper notes of wood, caramel chocolates, plums, figs, brambles and honey”.
“This is one to share around a table with good friends as the nights draw in – a rich, warming and very special dram from behind our big blue Warehouse 1 doors.”
Only 863 bottles are available and are exclusive to the UK.
Considered by many to be the king of Italian wines, Barolo is produced in the Piedmont region. This wine would have spent at least 18 months in the barrels used for the final maturation of this new expression.
Bottled at cask strength, natural colour and non-chill filtered.
Let’s taste.
Glen Moray, Warehouse 1 – Barolo Finish, Speyside Single Malt Scotch Whisky, 52.9% Alc/vol 70cl
Colour…Orange mahogany
Nose…Toffee leads, a berry sweetness, a slight floral note.
Taste…A tannic dryness, vanilla, leather topped writing desk, jammy dodgers, mild spices, plenty of toffee, in comes some mixed berries covered in vanilla ice cream.
Finish…Medium to long finish, some ginger spice, sweet vanilla honey and toffee lingers on and on.
Another winner from Glen Moray with a price of RRP £137.00 it does not seem out of the park for a well aged limited edition Glen Moray, well done all at this fabulous distillery, hope to see all you guys soon.
