anCnoc 2009 Vintage
In late October anCnoc unveiled its latest release from its acclaimed vintage collection, for the global market.
anCnoc is distilled at Knockdhu Distillery in a small village close to Huntly.
Gordon Bruce (Distillery Manager) said: ‘We’ve been waiting twelve years for this vintage and it has definitely been worth the wait. This is a dram that has all the light, fresh qualities of anCnoc that are so loved by our drinkers, but there’s also a rich spiciness and complexity from its time in the casks.
‘It’s always a joy to release a new whisky out into the world. I’m particularly proud that the character of this new vintage captures the way we do things at Knockdhu, and the traditions we hold dear, yet it still tastes like a very modern single malt.
anCnoc 2009 Vintage will be a real treat for whisky drinkers looking for something a little bit different to explore, or as a special addition to the Christmas list of anyone who appreciates a well-crafted single malt.’
Several years ago Gordon invited Nicola and I to spend three days working at the Knockdu Distillery. We had hands-on experience doing the full range of processes for the production of this fine Whisky and even got a small sample of new make spirit. I still have this sample in my Whisky cabinet.
These were three days that both Nicola and I will treasure for a very long time.
This expression was matured in a combination of first-fill Spanish oak butts and bourbon American oak barrels. Only 1320 cases are available in the Uk and global markets.
Let’s have a wee taste.
anCnoc 2009 Vintage – Highland Single Malt Scotch Whisky, 46% Alc/vol 70 cl, Non-chilled Filtered with Natural Colour
Colour…Olympic gold
Nose…Vanilla and honey, clean and elegant, spiced Seville oranges, star anise, and great dram to sit and sip.
Finish…Medium finish, smooth, the apple and spices lingering longest. This is a very fine dram.
Taste…Deep filled Bramley apple pie, 70% dark chocolate, so spicy and sweet, such a dram will be sold through independent and specialist retailers and Whisky shops with a very affordable RRP of £50.00.
Well done to Gordon and his team for this excellent expression. I will need to get a bottle for my cabinet, it is a special one.
