The Sassenach – Blended Scotch Whisky

Here we have a new blend from Sassenach Spirits, which was founded by Sam Heughan (Jamie from the Outlander tv series) This blend is distributed by the Loch Lomond Group and available to buy on-line from Loch Lomond or Master of Malt.

This dram is said to have been inspired by our Highland landscape. Mountain peaks. glens, morning mist and fresh clear rivers and streams.

I do love the bottle and packaging, a great ribbed bottle that is very tactile.

Let’s open the bottle and have a wee taste.

The Sassenach, Blended Scotch Whisky – Spirit of Home, Limited Batch Release. 70cl 46% Alc/vol

Colour…Medallion gold.

Nose…Soft ripe fruits, which include pineapple, peaches, coconut, a hint of citrus, runny toffee, and a hint of cinnamon.
Taste… Subtle and rich, loads of honey, vanilla custard, mixed nuts, mouth-coating, a touch of butterscotch, mild delightful spices.
Finish… Medium finish, a bit of singed oak, more citrus and some nutmeg.

Winner of gold at International Spirits Challenge 2020 and Double Gold at San Francisco World Spirits Competition.

A delicious dram, fruity and only needs a teardrop of water if any at all. Here at Whisky Boys HQ we have one bottle opened and another unopened, under lock and key.

I must say a big thanks to all who had a hand in putting this grand blend together. You have done an outstanding job, I just love it.

I cannot do a tasting of The Sassenach without bringing in the book Clanlands which will be followed up by a tv series following Sam and Graham’s antics as they tour Scotland and taste many drams en route.

Available from Amazon Books.

My wife Jacqueline cannot put this book down, she is finding it full of historical facts laced with the humorous interaction between Sam and Graham. Jacqueline can now not wait for the tv series which is coming soon. Jacqueline highly recommends that I read it, but, it is difficult to prize it out of her hands.
