The Scotch Malt Whisky Society – Bath Street, Glasgow. A Visit

SMWS Glasgow – after only being open for a couple of weeks this venue had to close due to Covid-19, but now they are open again.

Last Tuesday my wife and I took our friends and neighbours Dougie (a SMWS member) and his wife Cathie for their first visit to the SMWS Glasgow venue.

All four of us had a great late afternoon/early evening. On arrival we were welcomed by the renowned Whisky Venue Host, Alan who gave all of us a welcome dram, an 18 year old Glen Moray. What a way to start our visit.

We continued  to have a few drams and a beer. We took our time to view all the SMWS bottlings, I must say that the bath Street venue has the largest selection of bottlings than any other venue. They had some bottlings that I thought were completely sold out and not even available from the societies on-line shop.

The bottlings I purchased were Trifle Delightful (Jacqueline’s favourite) 122.26 It’s peat Jim, but not as we know it… and 53.315 Beast.

Boy am I going to have a great time tasting these.

I highly recommend all members to visit this wonderful venue, they have secluded seating areas and a very intimate tasting room.

They are currently serving cold platters and cheese boards as an ideal accompaniment to your drams. If you are lucky enough to arrive when Alan is on duty you will be well looked after and his knowledge of the societies whiskies is legendary.

To guarantee a table I recommend you book in advance.  Due to limited capacity they are offering timed bookings to ensure that everyone gets the chance to pop in for a dram. The table will be yours for an hour and 45 minutes, if no one has booked the table after you then you are, of course, welcome to stay longer.
