Arran 10 Year Old – Autumn 2019 in a Brand New Pack
Here we have a 10 Year Old Single Malt Scotch Whisky from the wonderful island of Arran. It’s been a couple of years since my last visit to Arran, now we have the Lagg Distillery in the south of the Island. Unlike Arran Distillery in Lochranza Lagg Distillery will be producing peated expressions.
So it is on the cards that a return trip to Arran is high on The Whisky Boys agenda.
When in Arran Distillery a three-year old cask was opened on 25th July 1998, it was the first legal dram of Arran Whisky in over 160 years.
James MacTaggart, Distillery Manager at Arran, at Lochranza on the north coast, said: ‘With the opening of our second distillery at Lagg it felt like the right time to make the clear distinction between the unique and very different spirits produced at each of our island homes.
‘We’ve taken inspiration from the elements that make Lochranza so special to produce a unique and beautiful new pack, which does justice to the liquid it contains.’
Now it is the time for a taste.
Colour…Copper fox tail
Nose…The lively and invigorating, honey and lemon, fresh oak, sweet ripe soft fruits.
Taste… Elegant and quite rich, more vanilla, now with a big citrus burst, a little spice pops up (a little ginger sweet cinnamon) lots of fresh oak.
Finish…Medium finish, all they main characters remain, honey, oak, citrus fruits mild spice, ticked all the boxes for me.
This is a delightful dram and priced at £36.45 and worth every penny. This elegant dram will feature in The Whisky Boys cabinet. It would also be a starter dram at any Whisky tasting.
