Malt of the Month – July 2011

Benromach Traditional, Speyside Single Malt Scotch Whisky – Unaged, 40% Alc/vol 70 cl

This months malt is from the smallest working distillery in Speyside and from the Ramach Hills comes it’s crystal clear spring water for this grand dram.

Way back in 1898 a Mr D. MacCallum and a Mr F Brickman founded the Benromach Distillery.

In 1993 the Distillery was taken over by the independent bottlers Gordon and MacPhail of Elgin and then took on the task of restoring it back into full working order. They made very little changes but it was now able to be operated by a single man. Prince Charles in 1998 officially opened this distillery and the start of new malts bottling’s began in 2004.

This Malt of the Month is one of many expressions produced at Benromach and the Whisky Boys highly recommend that you check out their website for these details and some of the history of this fine old distillery.

This particular dram can be found in some supermarkets and certainly in your specialist Whisky shop and on-line, (see shop window below).

This dram is currently in Jim’s cabinet but it may not sit their unopened for long, look out for the tasting notes.
