Prakaan – Single Malt Whisky
I firstly have to thank Rachael Tyrrell (Account Director with Burt Greener Communications) for sending me three samples of very interesting Single Malt Whiskies,
Prakaan is Thailand’s first premium single malt Whiskies.
This distillery, located in Kamphaeng Phet, in the heart of Thailand, produces three expressions in the Tribura series. (The Three Layers of Fortified Walls).
The Three are:-
Prakaan Single Cask Bourbon Cask Matured
Prakaan Double Cask. Ex Bourbon and Ex Sherry oak Casks
Let’s have a taste. These samples really intrigued me, as I have yet to taste a single malt from Thailand.
First up is the Select Cask.
Prakaan Thai Single Select Cask Malt Whisky from the Tribula Series – 43% Alc/vol, 70cl

Colour…Sunlight on the lake.
Nose…A ripe fruit bowl, the bowl is bursting with cherry, tangerine, apple and coconut, freshly squeezed lemons and vanilla.
Taste…Sweet with the fresh taste of scorched pineapples, light spices are dancing around, toffee, dark chocolate, jelly beans, orange blossom honey and lemon bonbons. Please be careful when adding water; it only needs a teardrop.
Finish…Medium to long, the fresh fruit remains in charge.
A very fine dram as an introduction to Thai Whisky. With an RRP of £59.95. This seems a little expensive for a no-age-statement single malt.
Up next, we have the double cask.
Prakaan Double Cask Thai Single Malt Whisky from the Tribula Series – 43% Alc/vol, 70cl

Colour…Light hazelnut.
Nose…A clean, fresh note, soft, sweet and seductive, vanilla tablet, sweetened caffe latte, raisins and a touch of butterscotch.
Taste…Chocolate, along with notes from the sherry influence, vanilla, charred stave, and a teardrop of water, brings out dark fruit intensity harmonised with nuts & milk chocolate, quite a lush dram.
Finish…Medium to long, there is so much happening on the finish, a cornucopia of flavours.
Yet another elegant dram. The RRP is £74.95. I agree with this price as it is quite a fine sherry finish expression, but, like the select cask, there is no age statement.
My final tasting of the evening is the Peated Cask.
Prakaan Peated Malt Thai Single Malt Whisky from the Tribula Series – 43% Alc/vol, 70cl

Colour…Starfish gold.
Nose…You are transported to the seashore on a blustery autumn day; being on a pebble beach with a strong salty sea air blowing, further up the beach is a beach BBQ, the smoke travels down to us, a Caribbean punch bowl full of fine ripe tropical fruits.
Taste…Lively and quite intense, richly sweet, cinder toffee, tarry driftwood, a harmony of honeyed pear and salty smoked bacon from the BBQ, a joyous balance of sweetness and smoke, alongside tasty fruits and seafood from the BBQ.
Finish…Long and very delightful, as a peat whisky lover this one is right up my street, enjoyed and at a reasonable price.
I loved this one, my favourite of the trio, with a nice RRP of £64.95.
Once again I must thank Rachael for these samples. I have had a grand evening tasting these Thai single malts. Thanks again.
