Chivas Regal Extra – Aged 13 Years
A few days ago I opened a bottle of the Chivas Regal Extra and now I think it is time to do a wee tasting.
Born in Speyside with it’s home being the fantastic Strathisla Distillery. This blend is the result of a lot of hard work by Master Blender Sandy Hyslop and his highly respected team.
When you hear the name Chivas Regal you automatically think quality, luxury and you know that you are getting something special. It is up there with Rolex, Chanel and Rolls Royce. This blend is selectively matured in first fill ex-oloroso sherry casks.
Let’s get some into my tasting glass and have a sip or two.
Chivas Regal Extra – Aged 13 Years, Blended Scotch Whisky 40% Alc/vol 70cl
Colour…Golden pineapple
Nose…Opulence of walnuts and figs, ripe pears, dark chocolate, with a citrus edge.
Taste…Marmalade and some Christmas pudding, but out of the shadows I could make out dates and mangos in a vanilla and cinnamon syrup, nutmeg Brazil nuts and almonds sitting on a sherried oak stave.
Finish…Long and smooth, nuts, pears and chocolate are in charge.
That was a very enjoyable wee tasting. Very smooth and indulgent. Priced at a very attractive price of £34.95, but in some supermarkets they have this dram on a special offer for as little as £25.00.At this price if you do not have this in your drinking cupboard, then you should be ashamed, this is a very easy drinking dram and is ideal for cocktails. I think I will make myself an Old Fashioned tonight and sit back and relax.
Once again the team up in Speyside have done it again, a beautiful expression of a delicate Chivas Regal blend, no one does it better.
