Cutty Sark – Prohibition Edition

Cutty Sark Prohibition was released to celebrate the repeal of prohibition in the USA. Bottled at 50% Alc/vol which is higher than the regular Cutty Sark, and supposedly from a different mixture of single malts and grains, it has a noticeably different taste and mouth feel than the regular Cutty Sark.

Cutty Sark Prohibition Edition has been crafted as a salute to the notorious Captain William McCoy, who smuggled Cutty Sark blended Scotch Whisky into America during the Prohibition era of the 1920s. Captain McCoy’s impeccable reputation for fairness and dealing only in the finest, genuine and unadulterated liquor gave rise to Cutty Sark being referred to as “The Real McCoy”.

Let’s open the bottle and have a wee tasting.

Cutty Sark Prohibition Edition – Blended Scotch Whisky, 50% Alc/vol 70cl

Colour…Dried apricot.

Nose…Runny toffee, vanilla, a dried fruit depth (raisins, dates & figs)
Taste…More toffee, fresh oak, a light ginger spice, Danish pastries.
Finish…Medium, in comes some chocolate and refined oak.

A great wee blend and priced less than £25.00 is well worth a tasting a little more mature than its regular brother.
