WHISKY CLUB RAISES A DRAM TO ITS 30th PEARL ANNIVERSARY WITH WHISKY AND OYSTER PAIRINGS

 The Scotch Malt Whisky Society celebrates its 30th anniversary by opening its doors to non-members for a truly shucking sensory adventure

 The Scotch Malt Whisky Society’s 30th ‘Pearl’ anniversary coincides with the UK’s native oyster season getting into full swing and to celebrate these two auspicious events, the whisky club is opening its doors to non-members this October, and celebrating with expertly matched whisky and oyster pairings.

The Society’s two venues in Edinburgh, 28 Queen Street in the New Town and The Vaults, Leith, will offer a truly shucking sensory adventure by debunking the myth that brown spirits should never be paired with oysters in spectacular fashion. Visitors will be able to sample platters of three oysters carefully paired with three of the Society’s rare single cask, single malt whiskies for £12 per platter from Friday 18th October– Sunday 3rd November.pearl-dram

Visitors can explore the elegant surroundings of The Society’s venues, which are normally only open to Society members, and experience indulge in beautifully matched oyster and whisky pairings to discover how the complex flavours of the Society’s huge array of whiskies can combine with the characteristics of different varieties of oysters.

The Society will also be hosting a special pearl masterclass event and dinner at The Vaults on Friday 25th October, with a limited number of 10 tickets available to non members. The pearl masterclass will be hosted by Bettina Boerner, a pearl expert from London, who will be flying into Edinburgh to dive deep into the world of pearls.  The evening will include a tasting of three matched whisky and oyster pairings, plus a 3-course dinner and the chance to win a unique piece of pearl jewellery created by Bettina Boerner worth morethan £700. The Scotch Malt Whisky Society was established in 1983 and celebrates its 30th anniversary this year.  A members-only whisky club and bottler, with 26,000 members, The Scotch Malt Whisky Society has private members rooms in Edinburgh and London, plus branches in 19 countries worldwide. The whisky and pearl theme follows from the earlier success of The Pearl Dram, a whisky and oyster pop-up bar by The Scotch Malt Whisky Society in London in September.

Event information

Whisky and oyster platters will be served to members and non-member alike from Friday 18th October– Sunday 3rd November at The Scotch Malt Whisky Society, 28 Queen Street, Edinburgh, EH2 1JX and The Scotch Malt Whisky Society, The Vaults, 87 Giles Street, EH6 6BZ. Entry to the venues is free and guests must be aged 18+.

The special pearl masterclass event and dinner with Bettina Boerner will be held at The Vaults on Friday 25th October.
