Malt of the Month – February 2012
This was an easy one this month, at the Whisky Lounge, Newcastle last month, Jim’s favourite tasting of this wee festival is now this months Malt of the Month and that is.
Laphroaig Islay Single Malt Scotch Whisky – Triple Wood, Non-chill filtered, 48% Alc/vol 70cl
The Whisky Boys have a great love for all things Islay and this is no exception.
One of Jim’s favourite Laphroaig is the Quarter Cask and this dram is just the next stage.
This dram has enjoyed a triple maturation in three different types of cask. The first is an American oak, ex-bourbon barrel then into a small 19th century Quarter cask for its second maturation and then finally it is moved into some specially selected large European oak ex Oloroso sherry casks.
This dram that we tasted down in Newcastle was sweet, creamy, smoky and all things that are Laphroaig and Islay.
When the Whisky Boys buy a bottle look out for our tasting as we expect it to be a good one.
At under £40.00 this is a fabulous dram for the money and all you Islay lovers must have one in your cabinet.
