The Tweeddale Blend Old Matured Blended Scotch Whisky Tasting
The Tweeddale Blend Old Matured Blended Scotch Whisky – Aged 12 Years 46% Alc/vol 70cl – Un-chilled Filtered
Way back on the 25th of June Jim visited The Good Spirits Co in Glasgow to have a wee taste of the Tweeddale. On leaving this fantastic Whisky/Rum shop Jim purchased a bottle to add to the Whisky Boys tasting list.
This blend contains a 15 year old single grain Whisky from a sherry butt, there are eight single malts which range from 12 years to 21 years old. You can check out all about this second batch by visiting The Tweeddale Blend website.
Colour…Seville orange rind
Nicola’s Tasting
Nose…Jumps up my nose and vaporises in a blast of very heavy spirit fumes.
Taste…Softens with tasty spice at the front of my tongue, strong and harsh, very full bodied and will keep you warm on a very cold night.
Finish…Long and hot.
Score…2 Corks
Jim’s Tasting
Nose…Loads of alcohol fumes, malty with the slightest hint of sherry and fruit.
Taste…A big dram, nippy pepper spice fills the palate, some sweet sherry and chocolate covered raisins.
Finish…Long and very warming with spice.
Score…3 Corks
This dram is just okay, did not do much for either Jim or Nicola, it is priced at around the £30.00 mark, which the Whisky Boys thought was too dear. There are many other blends out there that are far better and priced at a lot less, for example:-
Ballantine’s Finest Blended Whisky
Naked Grouse
Monkey Shoulder
Chivas Regal 12 Year Old
Dewar’s 12 Year Old
These are but just a few and can be purchased online by using our shop window below:
But to finish on a high note, the Whisky Boys cannot recommend highly enough for anyone looking for a terrific range of Whiskies (also Rum, Vodka and other spirits and Champagne together with a large range of cigars) then the best place in Glasgow is The Good Spirits Co. in Bath Street which is in the heart of the city.
Check out their website www.thegoodspiritco.com and when you visit this shop and buy a bottle or three, tell them the Whisky Boys sent you.
Needless to say it is hard to take when you receive your first critical review and I have taken a few days to think about it before writing this. However everyone is entitled to their own opinion and everyone has their own tastes especially when it comes to Scotch Whisky!

Thanks for the nice words about the shop. Hope to see you both again soon.
Shame you didn’t like the whisky, we really liked it. Didn’t get the heavy spirit notes that you guys got. Maybe try it again once it has been open a wee while?
@Mark, thanks for your comment, and great to see you yesterday in your Fantastic Shop… Absolutely we will revisit the Tweeddale very soon.
@Alasdair, thanks for your comment. At WhiskyBoys we simply love WHISKY, we enjoy our tastings and love to write about what WE have liked or not liked about a Whisky. We are 100% unbiased and unfunded by anyone, and enjoy the freedom this gives us.
We always write about our own personal tastes and disregard any influence from packaging notes or other published tasting notes, we are just two Whisky drinkers with our own opinion. You stated in your post you have received fabulous reviews about the Tweeddale, which goes to show everyone will / can form their own opinion. When you create a product and put it out there you’ve instantly opened yourself and product up for review (good or bad) you will never please everyone all of the time.
We will of course revisit Tweeddale in the future, I will keep you posted. Thanks again for finding the time to comment on WhiskyBoys…

I wouldn’t say your review was overpoweringly negative; it seemed pretty clear to me this blend just didn’t do it for you. I haven’t tried this whisky, but your review wouldn’t put it out of the running for me. It doesn’t make me excited to pursue it, but given a chance to sample it somewhere I probably still would.
Hi Whisky Critic
thanks for taking the time to comment. Absolutely 100%, it just didn’t do it for us. And as you say it won’t put me off sampling it again.
