Whisky Auction and Tasting – McTear’s Auction Galleries, Glasgow

It is early evening on Monday 28th February at McTear’s Auction and in the new tasting room, The John Cor Room, all the 173 Lots were out on display. On this occasion the lots were not in lot number order but in Distillery order.

McTear’s Whisky specialists, Johnny Walker and Stephen McGinty were on hand to let all the viewers have a wee dram or two and give them advice with any of the lots.

Jim had a wee dram of Ledaig Whisky followed by a Bruichladdich Whisky (Links), the Islay by far the nicest.

Jim found that there was little sparkle or atmosphere at this early viewing and tasting, everyone seemed quite subdued and there was little or no buzz. There was one of McTear’s Girls who was handing out glasses of wine to the viewers of all the auction rooms was the only one that had a broad smile and kind words to all who were visiting. Jim had expected that maybe there could have been a an Ambassador from one or more of the distilleries to give advise and deal with the tastings, so on the whole Jim was quite disappointed with the evening.

At 10.30 am on the next day the Island Odyssey Auction took place, this sale was a big success with many of the lots exceeding their estimates, so it was good to see that Scotch Whisky is still a very well sought after product, long may that continue.
