Torabhaig – Sound of Sleat
Torabhaig is located in Teangue on the Isle of Skye, I cannot recommend a visit to the beautiful Isle of Skye enough. Skye only has two licensed distilleries, the first was Talisker.
Torabhaig received planning permission in 2002 by its founder Sir Iain Noble. On Sir Iain’s death the distillery was acquired by Mossburn Distillers. Building began in 2014 in a former farm steading and all work was completed in 2017 and distilling commenced. It has a really stunning looking still room.

On a visit to the Isle of Skye with Whisky Boy’s wife, Jacqueline we visited Torabhaig and at that time, it was during the construction of this fine distillery. We promised that we would visit Skye again and see the completed distillery in all its glory.
Sure enough, Jacqueline and I did return to Skye and visited this grand distillery and had a little tour and visited their visitor centre. I loved the layout of the still room. This is a beautiful distillery in a fantastic location and should be on any visitor to Skye’s list of places to visit.
The Sound of Sleat is number four in their Legacy Series, and it is a celebration of the Sleat Peninsula.
I have to give a big thanks to James Bunting for sending me a bottle allowing me to taste and publish my tasting notes. If I shut my eyes and take a sip I am transformed to sitting on a rock, with the breeze in my hair on the beautiful Isle of Skye.

Torabhaig Sound of Sleat – Highland Single Malt Scotch Whisky 46% Alc/vol 70 cl
Colour…Lemon Zest
Nose…Juicy fruits including mangoes, mellons, pineapple and oranges, cigars stubbed out on a charred stave.
Taste…The palate was a bonfire feast of sweet peat, charred oak with a salty tang, honey, a real maritime character, seaweed salad as a side dish to grilled scallops and lobster, a hint of iodine.
Finish…A long finish with a dry, tickling finish of smoke and light spices, honey, sea spray hitting off the beach rocks.
Has to be one of my favourite tastings in a while. This beautiful Whisky is certainly in my top five of peated expressions.
With a RRP of only £58.25, this one is sure to have a permanent place in The Whisky Boys drinks cabinet.
