Bunnahabhain 12 Year Old – Cask Strength, 2023 Edition
This is Bunnahabhain’s third annual release and this expression has a higher Alc/vol of 60.1%.
Bunnahabhain Distillery is situated at the end of a remote coastal road on The Sound of Islay, overlooking the Isle of Jura. This fine distillery with its new visitor centre is one of The Whisky Boys’ all-time favourite distilleries.
Whenever I am in a bar/hotel my go-to Whisky has always been Bunnahabhain 12 Year Old. It is fresh with delicate hints of peat and very light smoke, full-bodied and it always gives me a rewarding finish.
Let’s open the bottle and have a taste.
Colour…Olive oil.
Nose…Plump sherried raisins, sitting among sea shells and salty sea air, dried fruit, just past a flower shop, no peat, mild smoke.
Taste…Crushed nuts, no peat, a hint of mild smoke, lingering spices, soft sweet notes, vanilla icing, uncharred oak staves.
Finish…Long finish, sweet and floral notes together with a puff of mixed spices.
A grand dram and another triumph for all at Bunnahabhain. Priced at a very reasonable £82.95 for a 12-year-old, this cask-strength, sherry-matured Whisky is not too expensive.
This bottle will now be placed at the back of The Whisky Boys cabinet and brought out only for special guests on high days and holidays.
