Aber Falls – Single Malt Welsh Whisky

Abergwyngregyn (meaning Mouth of the river of the white shells) is the home of this Welsh Distillery and sits at the foot of the wonderful Aber Falls.

The first new distillery in North Wales for over 100 years and comfortable sits between the Menai Strait and the Snowdonia Mountain range.

The distillery has had quite a past, once was a slate works, a margarine factory and recently a drinks wholesaler.

The distillery’s aim is to have their Whisky 100% Welsh and fully sustainable.

This Single Malt is distilled using Welsh barley. The maturation is done using a selection of bourbon, sherry and some virgin oak casks.

Let’s  open the bottle and have a taste.

Aber Falls – Single Malt Welsh Whisky, 40% Alc/vol 70 cl

NoseVanilla, runny toffee, juicy dried fruits, very tropical, a little citrus burst.

TasteFull bodied and quite elegant, sweet juicy plump sherry soaked golden sultanas, sweet and well rounded, more vanilla, a Caribbean fruit salsa.

FinishMedium finish, in comes a little honey and lemon, some very mild spices, with some golden syrup to finish.

This is a very nice Welsh Single Malt, very easy to drink no harsh notes all just sweet and elegant. Priced at around the £25.00 per 70cl bottle , this is an easy one to have on your Whisky shelf.

Aber Falls has not only a grand visitor Centre but a fine cafe serving breakfast, lunch and a selection of snacks. The distillery,  visitor centre and cafe are open seven days.
