Jura Rum Cask Finish
Recently arrived at Whisky Boys HQ was a sample of the new Jura together with a small packet of freeze-dried pineapple pieces.
I have over the years tasted many Jura expressions and really enjoyed them. Both Nicola and I have visited the distillery a few times, especially when the Feis Ile is on.
Firstly maturated in American white oak bourbon barrels and finishing its time in Caribbean rum casks.
This is the third in the Jura Cask Editions. I do love the labelling and the silver carton.
Let’s now have a taste.
Jura Rum Cask Finish – Single Malt Scotch Whisky, 40% Alc/vol 70 cl
Colour…Golden marmalade
Nose…Honey and coconut, sweet soft fruit punch, a hint of citrus, but all seem very subdued.
Taste…Creamy mouth feel, vanilla, mild spices, pineapple and peaches together with very ripe apricot, a little drying, finding it hard to find any hint of smoke.
Finish…Short to medium, the fruit is always there with some warming spices.
This sample was tasted with the freeze dried pineapple and it was a great combination.
I must admit I was expecting a little more rum influence in this dram, it was there but tucked away in the back. I have tasted many rum cask expressions where the sweetness and fruitiness has been more apparent, but all in all an enjoyable dram and one I will revisit. It is available in some supermarkets at around the £40.00 mark.
A couple of other run cask finished whiskies are, Glenfiddich Fire & Cane and The Balvenie 14 Year Old Caribbean Cask.
