Glasgow, here we come – The Scotch Malt Whisky Society

Yes it is true, SMWS are opening a new venue in the heart of Glasgow. It will situated in Bath Street, which is a 4/5 minute walk from both Buchanan Street bus station and Queen Street railway station, this will make it so easy for members in Glasgow and the surrounding towns to easily experience the joys, flavours and uniqueness of the Societies Single Cask/Cask Strength Scotch Malts and other exceptional spirits.

As an Ambassador for the Society for many years I have hosted many External Members Tastings in Glasgow and many Glasgow Whisky Festivals together with West Coast members visiting The Vaults in Leith. Without fail the West Coast/Glasgow members are always asking when are they opening a venue in Glasgow, they say that there are two in Edinburgh and one in London and many venues/ partner bars dotted throughout the world, why not Glasgow.

So, as a 2020 New Year present for all the Glasgow members this brand new venue will open its doors in January 2020.

Jan Damen, operations director at the Scotch Malt Whisky Society, said: “We know there has always been a demand from our members for an SMWS venue in Glasgow, so we’re delighted to be opening in such a great city with a lively whisky scene “.

“We have a high number of existing members in the city and the surrounding area, so we hope to provide them with their own venue to meet up and also welcome new whisky-loving members to join us there.”

This new venue will include a Snug area, an intimate tasting room and a private dining section.

So if anyone wants to keep up to date with the opening date and some special opening events please check on a regular basis at

So, now is the time for our Glasgow members to encourage family and friends to become members so they can enjoy all things Whisky at The Scotch Malt Whisky Society.
