J G Thomson – Batch 1 “Sweet Edition”

J G Thomson - Batch 1 “Sweet Edition”

Earlier this year I was delighted to taste the “Smoky Edition” of the trio of blended malts released by J G Thomson. Today it is the turn of the “Sweet Edition”.

The cask selection was quite unique. They used a mix of new toasted oak casks and heavily toasted casks with a medium char. The casks that have a heavy char got additional toasting to the cask heads.

This is the second of three blended malts from J G Thomson the third being “Rich Edition” which I will review and taste later.

Let’s open the bottle and have a wee taste.

J G Thomson “Sweet” Batch No: 1 – Blended Malt Scotch Whisky, 46% Alc/vol 70 cl

Colour…Golden straw

Nose…Millionaires shortcake, vanilla, coconut, Honey, and lemon, a mild hint of cinnamon.

Taste…More vanilla, mixed crushed nuts, a mouth-watering sweetness, sherbert and granola, fruit lollipops and cream soda, and milk chocolate fudge.

Finish…Medium finish with coconut and vanilla, ice cream with tablet pieces, ticked all the boxes for me.

What a Whisky, it has to be one of the most pleasant and easiest drinking blended malts I have tasted in many a year. If you know anyone who always says “I don’t like Whisky”, then let them try a dram of this you then just might have a convert.

Priced at £42.50 it is a great price for a great dram. Nicola and I will be sure to have this in our tasting cabinet.
