SMWS Outturn December 2025 goes live on Friday 5th December 2025
Whisky With Your Feet Up – The Scotch Malt Whisky Society releases (outturn) several single cask bottlings of Scotch, Whisk(e)y, Rum and Gin, to name a few, usually on the first Friday of every month.

3.359 – Jelly in a Limestone Sauna
56.0% ~ 1st Fill Ex-PX Barrique ~ 21yo ~ Islay ~ £225.00
On a stroll towards the beachfront sauna, tar-soaked hessian unwound to let loose jelly babies and coal, pineapple chunks and smoked wheat beer. The palate, zingy with orange soda and lavender honey, was underpinned by a deep leather backbone. Water added floral peat notes to the nose, with cloudy lemonade and a rosemary-seasoned first aid kit provisioned outside the sauna… read more

5.145 – A Tickle at the Cricket
47.9% ~ 1st Fill Ex-Bourbon Barrel ~ 10yo ~ Lowland ~ £48.00
Butter biscuits mingled with meringue and cold lemon curd, before being joined by peanut oil, strawberry liqueur and the perfume of a summer meadow on the nose. The palate was a fruit salad accented by mace and poppy seeds, served with fried bread, pear syrup and a drizzle of lavender honey. Water took us back to the meadow, this time with pollen filling the air as we watched a game of cricket and grazed on lemon bonbons…read more

7.285 – Treacle, Jam and Marzipan
57.8% ~ 1st Fill Ex-PX Barrique ~ 19yo ~ Speyside ~ £199.00
Fruit-laced marzipan and peach cobbler came accompanied by a scoop of pear and apple ice cream drizzled with molasses. The palate echoed the nose, and added orange, grape and a chewy treacle toffee texture. Water introduced cherry fondant to the nose, plus tamarind and figs baked in wet canvas. The palate finished with a spoon of chantilly cream and plum jam on a bakewell tart… read more

9.312 – When Orchards Dream
48.8% ~ Re-Fill Ex-Bourbon Barrel ~ 32yo ~ Speyside ~ £345.00
The orchard slumbered beneath a honeyed sky, its breath sweet with green apple jelly and pears poached in cider. Oak cups of apple wine rested on polished mahogany, while fruit jelly sweets whispered dreams of satsuma and marzipan. Apricot nectar and nectarine lullabies soothed the silky palate, where elderflower and sandalwood melted into syruped serenity. 19.104 – Something for the Sweet-Toothed

Marshmallows dipped in chocolate, cherry lips sweets, beeswax and juicy ripe strawberries marinated in prosecco were just some of the mouth-watering aromas mentioned. On the palate we were offered a giant red and white candy stick, passion fruit-flavoured jelly babies, plus crystallised brown sugar swizzle sticks. Water released the scent of tropical fruits including kumquats, lychees, papayas and pomegranates, yet it also reminded us of two drinks…. read more

24.191 – A Dark and Chewy Beast
62.2% ~ 1st Fill Ex-PX Hogshead ~ 16yo ~ Speyside ~ £135.00
The neat nose was full of strawberry ice cream, freshly ground black pepper, white balsamic vinegar, overripe cherries, raisins soaked in orange juice and chocolate-covered dates. Water revealed freshly roasted mixed nuts, dried apricot, fruit-laden muesli, blood orange and cocoa powder. The palate, when neat, was intense, with big notes of strawberry jam, muscovado sugar and creamy porridge full of dark honey, plus shisha tobacco, mince pies, strong black tea and fresh espresso….read more

28.110 – Honey and Crumbs
62.8% ~ 1st Fill Ex-Bourbon Barrel ~ 10yo ~ Highland ~ £65.00
Flakes of toasted coconut and vanilla pods combined in biscuits that the Panellists crumbled over peaches, pine cones and honeysuckle flowers. A hint of polished wood followed, before the palate arrived with mouth-coating lemon syrup and honey oozing over fresh raspberries, lavender tea and soft sponge cake. Crunchy tea biscuits and jam-filled Swiss rolls arrived with a few drops of water, preparing the senses for a follow-up of orange ice cream and shaved lemon skin in a new leather bag… read more

29.305 – Seaweed and Smokies
58.3% ~ 2nd Fill American Oak Oloroso Hogshead ~ 11yo ~ Islay ~ £89.00
We were instantly placed slap bang in the heart of a Munich beer festival, the aromas of grilled German sausage, smoked cheese and ashy embers filling the air. These collided with a chilled offering of seaweed, soya and teriyaki sauce. The initial taste engulfed us in a cloud of smoke, where we could identify sweet, sticky barbecue sauce, beer, hot dogs and flamed burgers, akin to a lively tailgate party. With a little water, the Panel noted lorne sausage, brown sauce, toasted brioche, mint leaf and the return of the briny seaweed note… read more

35.407 – Tallying Bananas
55.6% ~ 1st Fill Ex-Bourbon Barrel ~ 12yo ~ Speyside ~ £65.00
This opened with a fruit explosion on the neat nose, mainly bananas – as in banana split, banana bread and German wheat beer – while apple upsidedown cake, papaya salad and jammy red fruits also made a guest appearance. On the palate it reminded us of a glass of rivesaltes wine from France, with its familiar flavours of vanilla, baked cherries and honey, but we also noted the taste of mung bean cakes hailing from China. Following reduction, we found ginger and lime tea with aromatic herbs, turmeric, saffron and a hint of frankincense… read more

39.301 – The Present is Unforgettable
58.7% ~ 1st Fill Ex-Bourbon Barrel ~ 13yo ~ Speyside ~ £75.00
The Panellists decided to dip candyfloss and celery in sugar and lemon juice. The palate had more of a savoury tang: Norwegian brunost, black peppercorns, a tickle of chilli flakes and warm bread. With water, we found grapefruit segments steeped in orange juice, pipe tobacco and pear crumble on both the nose and the palate. A silky texture was noted, with finishing impressions of mace, cinnamon and digestive biscuits… read more

46.166 – Brambles off the Port Bow!
57.7% ~ 1st Fill Ruby Port Barrique ~ 11yo ~ Speyside ~ £60.00
As marzipan rolled in melted chocolate, so too did our noses into a jar of damson jam and a glass of white zinfandel. A Mediterranean air followed, with wild fennel and bergamot. To taste, this was a creamy and sweet affair: panna cotta dressed with chocolate bitters, vanilla and tobacco milkshake, warm pancakes and a splash of brandy. Water gave the nose a baked apple perfume, with cassis and plum compote. The palate finished with cherry jam, peanuts and bramble jelly stirred into rice wine… read more

53.514 – Anna Has The Bridge
58.4% ~ 1st Fill Ex-Oloroso Hogshead ~ 13yo ~ Islay ~ £99.00
The Panel awoke on an old Scottish island ferry, with coal soot cascading over salted raisin purée, toffee sauce and lapsang souchong tea. The palate was nutty and coastal, like dipping fried seaweed in olive oil and balsamic glaze, with sweet notes of marshmallow and ginger snaps to follow. Water introduced clove, honey, orange peel and charred lavender to the nose. The finish took us back to the bridge of the ferry, with a coastal salinity on the palate being accented by wintergreen mint and creosote… read more

58.62 – Honey Hi
53.5% ~ 1st Fill Ex-Bourbon Hogshead ~ 14yo ~ Speyside ~ £85.00
The neat nose revealed creamy vanilla foam and victoria sponge cake, which also suggested a good sense of texture about this whisky. We then noted the lovely natural sweetness of barley sugars and honey, before a subtle waxiness emerged. Reduction brought out flower nectars, heather honey, light shilling ales and freshly baked bread. When neat, the palate was dominated by floral honeys, hints of youthful dessert wines, yellow plums and sweet breakfast cereals… read more

59.85 – We’ll Take a Cup of Kindness Yet
56.5% ~ 1st Fill Ex-Bourbon Hogshead ~ 13yo ~ Highland ~ £73.50
The nose started inauspiciously with childhood memories of lino cuts, putty and modelling compound, but eventually opened up to sugared almonds, rich tea biscuits with butter and honey, cinnamon toast and sweet, roasted malt. The palate, sweet and nutty, suggested chocolate hazelnuts and brazils, pralines, almond flakes, coffee-flavour chocolate honeycomb sticks, and maple syrup. The reduced nose turned jammy – jammy dodgers, chocolate swiss rolls, strawberry jam brioche and chocolate ice cream, with side orders of champagne and old books… read more

68.140 – Christmas Morning Fiesta
58.1% ~ 1st Fill European Oak Ex-PX Butt ~ 13yo ~ Highland ~ £82.00
The nose was like a Christmas morning fiesta. Dried orange wheels and cinnamon sticks graced the tree, with apples, oranges and marzipan sweets in the children’s stockings – but the adults were into the red wine and sangria. On the palate, treacle-glazed gammon and barbecue ribs jostled with dates, dark chocolate and plum jam, while the finish combined paprika, blackcurrant, antiseptic toothpaste and sherry-soaked oak. In reduction, sugared almonds, fig rolls and cinnamon toast appeared on the nose, while the palate enjoyed cappuccino, champagne truffles and marmalade.. read more

70.67 – Throught the Window, Brambles
57.7% ~ 1st Fill American Oak Toasted Barrique ~ 17yo ~ Highland ~ £115.00
The perfume of an ice cream van, an old-timey school desk and papaya-infused linseed putty greeted us on the nose. The palate was awash with cherries and berries, banana and crème brûlée topped with chestnut paste and a silky bramble jelly. Water invited further bramble to the nose, along with shoe polish, beurre noisette, dark chocolate-coated marzipan and overripe bramley apples. The palate retained its silky, mouthcoating texture, enhanced by chantilly cream, mace and yet more bramble jelly, topped with salted caramel.. read more

73.172 – Wax on Toast
54.5% ~ 1st Fill Ex-Bourbon Barrel ~ 13yo ~ Speyside ~ £75.00
The neat nose suggested to us a richer and drier profile, with waxes, fabrics, chalky notes and impressions of linen, sunflower and pumpkinseed oils, and toasted bread. Some water brought out pine cones, cedar wood, crushed nettles and petrichor vibes. When neat, the palate was initially herbal and nicely mentholated, its gentle oily texture balanced by fruity flapjack notes, heather flowers and sultana… read more

77.78 – Handbrake Swerve
56.6% ~ 2nd Fill Ex-Oloroso Hogshead ~ 16yo ~ Highland ~ £115.00
At first nosing we detected orange peel, marzipan and mature oloroso notes – very classical sherry influences on display, we thought. These were followed swiftly by pickled balsamic onions, orange oils, lime zest and marmalade with coriander seed. Reduction brought out butterscotch, gorse flower, green mango and assorted fruit salad ‘juicy dregs’. Some impressions of mixed sweeties were also detected. The neat palate opened with whipped cream, blackcurrant jam, buttered scone and toffee sauce… read more

78.96 – Oooh Look at that Big Strong Dram!
59.1% ~ 1st Fill Ex-Oloroso Hogshead ~ 12yo ~ Highland ~ £82.00
The neat nose revealed figs dipped in chocolate, soft earthy tones, warm cocoa full of marshmallows and some balancing aromas of umami liquid seasonings. With water the earthiness was elevated, alongside deep notes of tobacco, forest mushrooms, paprika and spiced beef jerky. The palate was very spicy initially, and brought big impressions of dark-grained spiced breads, winter ales, prune eau de vie, eucalyptus and clove oil… read more

89.24 – Hip Hip Hooray!
60.4% ~ 1st Fill Ex-Oloroso Hoigshead ~ 17yo ~ Speyside ~ £120.00
The embrace of an American oak, first-fill, oloroso hogshead after 13 years in ex-bourbon wood has created a nose that evoked joyous celebrations – cinnamon pastries and sangria, espresso and cigars, dessert wine and blown-out cake candles. The palate combined sherry-fed Christmas cake, birnenbrot and syrupy fruits with a teasingly spiced finish of candied ginger, turmeric and walnuts… read more

94.52 – An Orchard Scene
61.6% ~ 1st Fill Ex-Bourbon Hogshead ~ 14yo ~ Highland ~ £85.00
We found ourselves standing in an apple orchard on a warm, sunny, autumn afternoon while, in the adjacent field, the hay was being harvested. We picked a golden delicious apple and took a first bite, enjoying that typical combination of appetising, juicy sweet and sour flavours. After reduction we cleaned the leaves of a rubber plant with an old recipe of water and beer mixed together… read more

100.49 – Warm as Toast
56.6% ~ 1st Fill Ex-Bourbon Hogshead ~ 14yo ~ Speyside ~ £75.00
A drying and subtly spicy aroma greeted the Panel, with impressions of ginger powder, dried-out pollens, wintergreen and a variety of medicines all being noted. We also got baked lemons, wild fennel and warm brown bread. Some reduction offered brighter cereal characteristics, fresh linens, apple distillate and other youthful fruit brandy vibes. 107.27 – Earl Grey and Lemon Meringue Cake
64.5% ~ 2nd Fill Ex-Bourbon Barrel ~ 13yo ~ Speyside ~ £80.00
A delightful tropical fruit note greeted the Panel with aromas of pineapple, mango, guava, banana and coconut, while in the background – almost as if lying in wait – were the sweet childhood memories of toasted marshmallows. Surprisingly sharp on the palate neat, this reminded us of green gooseberry conserve before sweeter flavours of cured bacon, marzipan and bourbon syrup drizzled over pancakes appeared… read more

115.37 – It’s a Knockout!
57.6% ~ 2nd Fill Ex-Bourbon Barrel ~ 15yo ~ Speyside ~ £90.00
A firm and assertive nose, we thought, with immediate notes of pollen-heavy lilies, hessian cloth, wintergreen, putty and sandalwood, plus bouillon stock with bay leaf and a nourishing waft of freshly baked pastries and breads. With water we found furniture oils, pine cones, sunflower seeds and trampled clover. There were also more feelings of pastries, such as warm buttery croissants… read more

138.30 – Lunchbox Luxuries
56.7% ~ Charred New Oak Barrel ~ 5yo ~ Taiwan ~ £69.00
On a stroll through a lush pine forest, with sticky sap coating everything we touched, we were surprised to see tangerines, clementines and grapefruit dangling from the trees. For this expedition we had brought a few treats – coconut cake with a layer of raspberry jam, crumbly empire biscuits, and bakewell tarts with the cherry on top. Aromas of coastal herbs and flowers, wet rocks, white sand and turquoise water conjured up the serene setting of the perfect Scottish beach. On the palate, we found wonderful herbally infused peat emanating from gently sweet, cured smoked trout and lemons preserved using smoked sea salt. Diluted, we rolled up our trousers, kicked off our shoes and searched for shells in the rockpools – reinforcing the peace and serenity of our tranquil haven… read more

Cask No. Batch 35 – Cocoa Drift
50.0% ~ Society Solera ~ 11yo ~ Blended Malt ~ £60.00
The Panel leaned in, noses twitching with anticipation. Black pepper and polished wood led the charge, soon joined by hoisin oranges, miso caramel ice cream and the delicate sweetness of candied yuzu. Cherry chocolate and brandy snaps added indulgent depth. The first sip unfolded with clafoutis and cinnamon liqueur, chocolate bars, blackcurrant jam and caramelised sage. Apricot jam tarts and chewy black liquorice lingered with rich intrigue. Adding water, the air filled with caraway crackers and strong menthol lozenges, before shifting to freshly polished leather, burnt lemon and balsamic-poached pears… read more
