I was contented to stay at home last night, glimpsing a bit of fireworks through the treetops. Cleverly staged to appear to be springing from the top of the Eureka tower.While i don’t expect much intelligent entertainment from the radio these days, the Coodabeens new year’s eve slot was truly woeful. A lot of the time those guys have just stopped trying. Everytime i tuned in they were chuckling at their own limp oneliners or fielding calls from every half-sloshed punter who wanted to spread the love around. New years greetings are fine, but they don’t make for four hours of sparkling radio.Speaking of media quality, as a frustrated radio columnist (can’t get a gig in mainstream print, stopped trying long ago) does anyone know of any good websites/blogs that focus on media, especially radio, critique? l should probably make it my New Year’s resolution to start my own blog but in the meantime i’ve got lots to say (particularly on the Melbourne AM stations) and nowhere to post. Googling suggests the absence of any such outlet, which, when you think about it, is slightly bizarre, given the blogosphere’s preoccupation with popular culture. Perhaps the risk of defammation is a deterrent.But if anyone knows of any remotely relevant sites, i would love to get the lowdown.Oh, and Happy New Year to all especially the dissidents & troublemakers!
