Famous Grouse – Mellow Gold

We are about to taste the new Grouse – Mellow Gold.

This new premium blend from Master Blender Gordon Motion has been matured in a mixture of bourbon and sherry casks.

So Nicola and I sat down with our glasses and a small jug of water to taste the new blend on the block.

The Famous Grouse – Mellow Gold, Blended Scotch Whisky, 40% abv 70 cl.

Our tasting notes.famous-grouse-mellow-gold

Colour…A haystack at sunset.

Nose: Icing sugar, sherry, a fresh vanilla pod, freshly cut oak, grassy notes, a tad spirity.

Taste: More vanilla with sherry soaked sultanas, a gentle nip of ginger spice, quite viscous with a hint of orchard fruits.

Finish: A medium finish, the sweetness is the winner on the finish, but a little bit of oak creeps in at the end.

This is a sweet, light, mellow and very smooth blend, you will have to go lightly with the water (if any) only a tear drop is needed.  At around £22.00 a bottle this should be on everyone’s list as Christmas fast approaches.

This blend is a splendid addition to The Grouse family. But… so far The Whisky Boys favourite Grouse is the fantastic Naked Grouse a deeply sherried blend that is outstanding.

A little bit more from Grouse.

The Grouse family are launching a new peated Grouse, out goes the Black Grouse and in comes the new Famous Grouse Smoky Black. This one is said to be lightly smoky and in the blend it includes a rare version of Glenturret. So, The Whisky Boys are looking forward to tasting this one in the near future, lookout for our review.

The Whisky Boys highly recommend a visit to The Famous Grouse Experience at Glenturret Distillery (the oldest in Scotland) the spiritual home of this Famous Grouse. This five star attraction gives the visitor a fabulous tour and interactive experience and it also includes a wee dram or two.

So to start with visit www.thefamousgrouse.com and check out the full Grouse range and read about the history of this wonderful
