The Famous Grouse – A Glorious World Record

It is late morning in the grounds of Glenturret Distillery on Sunday 12th August 2012, the home of The Famous Grouse Experience and a world record is just about to be broken.

A bottle was commissioned from the Czech Glass manufacturer Bomma in the small town of Svetla which lies close to Prague and was transported to Crieff by road to ensure it arrived safe and well.

Sunday is the 107th birthday and 10 years since The Famous Grouse Experience opened its doors at Glenturret Distillery.

The World Record prior to to this attempt was held by Jack Daniels in the USA and their bottle held 184 Litres of Whiskey, and this new attempt was to have the custom made bottle, which is an enlarged replica of The Famous Grouse bottle and was to be filled with in excess of 200 litres of one of Scotland’s finest blended Whiskies.

Milling around the distillery were hundreds of visitors from all around the world, which included those that were to fill the oversized bottle. The Whisky Boys not to be left out had Jim at the distillery and he was given the litre bottle number 24 which in turn he emptied into the vast bottle.

After a few hours the bottle was filled, the officials from the Guinness Book of World Records official gave over the detailed and signed certificate confirming the new world record of The Worlds Largest Whisky Bottle which now contained 228 litres of delightful Whisky.

This day at Glenturret was an open family day with tours all day and face painting for the kids, the RSPB had a stall with loads of information, a Highland Games strong man show, great food and drams up in he bar and restaurant and the shop was busy with many bottles flying of the shelf especially the new Black Grouse, The Alpha Edition. Everyone who filled the giant bottle were aloud to keep their number bottle commemorating this momentous occasion.
