Established in 1798 on Orkney, Highland Park is one of the most remote Scotch whisky distilleries in the world.For over 200 years, the distillery has combined time old tradition and the very best craftsmanship to achieve perfection. Thor is the legendary Norse God the hammer wielding super hero associated with thunder, lightning and storms, and gives his name to the day of the week, Thursday. Highland Park in honour of this ultimate warrior has given him pride of place of being the first in the new Valhalla Collection, which will be a collection of only 4 unique and inspirational Whiskies which will be released annually.

Jim’s Tasting

Nose…Light Orcadian peat smoke, some fresh root ginger, grass and a little floral note.

Taste…Vanilla cream, spicy peat, you know it is cask strength, Caribbean fruits, very rounded, smooth and sweet, big and almost chewable, sherry is only in the background.

Finish…Long and drying finish, vanilla spice remains, as mighty as Thor’s hammer.

Score…4.5 Corks

Nicola’s Tasting

Nose…Ginger snaps with vanilla cream centre, light smoke signals.

Taste…Bowl full of fresh fruit, ginger snaps, creamy and biscuity, dry cinnamon spice.

Finish…Long, intense fiery dry.

Score…4 Corks

Overall score…4.5 Corks

What a thundering great dram, the Whisky Boys will need to get one for our cabinet.
