Whisky Boys – Back to School (again), Week 6
It’s Tuesday 25th October 2011 and it is only me that is on the train from Croy to Glasgow Queen Street, for our weekly trip to the Glasgow Metropolitan College. It’s week 6 of John Lamond’s Advanced Whisky Trail and this weeks topic is “ Open Week “
The attendance at the course was down by four, with my son-in-law Scott unable to attend due to work commitments and it would appear that he may not finish this course, of which he is very disappointed.
This week each student had to give a short presentation on some aspect of Whisky and a variety of topics were discussed. They included :-
German Whisky
Excise Men of Old
Blending
Does Scotch Whisky have a Future
Are Whisky Bloggers important to the Whisky Industry
Maturation – Dunnage against Racking
These are just a few of the topics of the evening and the discussions were lively and injected with a touch of wry humour.
Following our presentations we had to do a blind tasting on 4 Whiskies and give a detailed appraisal of each Whisky. This part of the course is always the best and again we enjoyed John Lamond’s choice of drams. The 4 Whiskies tasted tonight were:-
Aberlour 10 Year Old
Bowmore 12 Year old
The Glenlivet 12 Year Old
The Glenlivet 18 year Old
To finish, it was intimated by many at this weeks course that the missing students were intimidated and scared to stand up and give a presentation, but it was just a suggestion from one or two of the students who did manage to attend this week.
The Whiskies we enjoyed tonight are available in most supermarkets and can also be purchased online by using the shop window below. Remember and tell that the Whisky Boys sent you…
