Arran on the Square – 14th & 15th May 2011

This was a special event to celebrate all things “Arran” and both Jim and Nicola attended for the second day, Sunday 15th May, the Square being George Square in the centre of Glasgow.

“Arran in the Square” is a showcase for many island producers. Visitors will have plenty of time to sample Arran food and drink throughout the two days, and can also learn and get some inspiration from the Cookschool Scotland Cookery Theatre, here Head Chef Phil Lewis will demonstrate some exciting techniques and ideas for using Arran produce.

There were many stalls including Arran Ales, Arran Cheeses, Arran Aromatics as well as the Arran Distillery stall, which was the Whisky Boys first port of call.

We were met at the Arran Distillery stall by Faye Black (the Distilleries Visitor Centre Manager) who in turn introduced us to Euan Mitchell (Managing Director) and James MacTaggert (Distillery Manager). You can see by the calibre of staff that were in Glasgow, Arran Distillery took “ Arran on the Square” as a serious showcase.

We were invited to taste a couple of their expressions and we started with the 10 year old, which is a fresh and classic Arran dram. we then were given a wee taste of the Machrie Moor – First Edition, which has the logo “ It’s time to unleash the beast ” this peated dram is limited to only 9000 bottles world wide, this is a classic Arran dram with a real peaty kick to it. Dare we say it, Jim absolutely loved it.

If anyone reads this in time then the Arran open day is on Sunday 29th May 2011, this will be a fabulous day and we hope the weather is good for all.

Both Jim and Nicola have precious engagements and are so disappointed that we cannot make it, but we have promised Faye that we shall contact her very soon to advise her when we can take a trip over, looking forward to it already.

Many of the Arran expressions are available from many on-line Whisky shops, your local specialist and by shopping in the window below.

If in doubt visit Arran’s website and go to their shop where all their drams are there to buy. Remember to tell them the Whisky Boys sent you.
