Canal Inn, Falkirk

It was early on Friday the 22nd of October 2010 when Nicola called in at Jim’s with a view of having Jacqueline as our nominated driver and taking a drive to the Canal Inn which sits on the banks of the Forth and Clyde canal, between locks numbers 15 and 16.

This smashing little pub is run by Robert Heeps who is a neighbour of Jim’s, we found this pub to be very rustic with open beams and shelves full of nostalgic wares.

Jim and Nicola’s ale of choice tonight was McEwans 60/- , but we quickly moved on to Roberts selection of Single Malts and blends.

This bar did have quite a few Whiskies and some you would not readily find in your everyday pub, Jim enjoyed the Jura Superstition and the 6 Isles Vatted Malt, which in Jim’s eyes is a hidden gem. Nicola tasted the Inverarity Speyside and a Macallan 10 Year Old.

This is a very atmospheric pub with all the regulars enjoy the chat and banter with the staff and other regulars.

Because of its location it is not a pub that is easily seen from the road but is a pub you have to make a little effort to get to, unless you are sailing the canal when you can tie up just at the pubs door.

Jim and Nicola both enjoyed our couple of hours chatting with Robert and his staff together with a few of the regulars, and of course tasting some smashing Whiskies.

On leaving we did say to Robert we shall return, hopefully on a Saturday night when this pub has live entertainment.

So to all our readers, especially those in the Falkirk area, take some time out and gos to the Canal Inn and enjoy some fine Ales and one or three drams, and remember to tell the staff that the Whisky Boys sent you.
