Buffalo Trace Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey

Buffalo Trace Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey, 45% Alc/vol. 70cl. October Bourbon Month.

This is the first Bourbon of the month and Nicola has just popped round to Jim’s with a bottle for us to review and taste.

Buffalo Trace Distillery is located in Frankfort, Kentucky. This Whiskey was first introduced in late 1999. This distillery stands on the oldest distillery site in the USA which was an ancient buffalo crossing at the Kentucky River.

A wee note on this grand old distillery is that is also has the worlds smallest bonded warehouse. Warehouse no. V can only store one barrel of Whiskey at any one time.buffalo-trace2

This distillery is well known for is Bourbon but it also produces Rye Whiskey and a Vodka, but their flagship is indeed Buffalo Trace Kentucky Straight Bourbon.

Well lets get down to this tasting, Jim has changed his mind in relation to Japanese Whisky as some of those are fantastic, so lets see if America can change Jim’s outlook on Bourbon.

The tasting.

Colour…Cadbury’s caramel centre

Jim’s Tasting

Nose…Sweet and rich vanilla with the slightest hint of rum.

Taste…Still sweet on the palate, a touch of spice with a little oaky woodiness, and maybe the rum is still slightly showing.

Finish…Short to medium finish, with a dry fruitiness coming in.buffalo-trace-whiskey

Score…2.5 Corks

Nicola’s Tasting

Nose…Sugar and spice, a lot of wooded hints.

Taste…Chocolate covered coffee beans, a little bitter sweetness.

Finish…Shortish finish with spicy dark fruits.

Score…2.5 Corks

Overall score…2.5 Corks

Well that is the first of 5/6 Bourbons we intend to review and taste this October.

This Bourbon dram is not a bad one but again it is not a great one, quite drinkable and better than some of the more popular Bourbons that are available at most supermarkets

This Whiskey is certainly available at some on-line suppliers and maybe at your specialist Whisky shops.

Both Jim and Nicola are both looking forward to the remaining tastings and getting a better insight into Bourbon Whiskey.

To end, the Whisky Boys would like to give a BIG THANKS to Master of Malt for sponsoring our Bourbon Month.

When you go and buy a bottle of this Whiskey, remember to tell them that the Whisky Boys recommended it.
