Glenfarclas Whisky – 12 year Old Single Highland Malt Whisky

Once again Jim, Dougie and Phil ( don’t think I mentioned that this week past the other Whisky Boy, Nicola is away south for a well earned break with her family) have gathered round at Dougie’s for another tasting on this Sunday 28th June 2009.

Dougie went into his cupboard and pulled out a bottle of Glenfarclas Whisky – 12 year Old.

This was one of Dougie’s purchases on his recent Speyside trip with his wife Cathie ( check out Speyside Whisky Trail under Dougie’s Tales.)

Glenfarclas is renowned for producing Single Highland Malt Scotch Whisky in the traditional Speyside style, with a heavy Sherry influence. They produce a wide range of expressions from the mouthwatering freshness of the 10 Years Old, to the indulgent 30 Years Old. One of the delights of Glenfarclas is exploring the subtle differences between the different expressions.

Dougie has listed Glenfarclas’s range.

Lets get down to the tasting.

Glenfarclas Single Highland Malt Scotch Whisky Aged 12 Years 43% Alc/vol.

The tasting

Colour.Golden syrup.

Dougie’s tasting

Nose…Citrus with dried fruit and honeycomb.glenfarclas-whiskyrange

Taste…Well rounded initial honey sweetness followed by spices dancing on my tongue.

Finish…Long, slightly peppery, yet honey with a slight hint of peat smoke.

Phil’s tasting

Nose…Orange zestiness.

Taste…Very smooth and complex with a little spice showing.

Finish…Medium long, a sweet and pleasant tingle on the lips, a pure delight of a dram.

Jim’s tasting

Nose…Sherried fruit cake with a spicy sweetness.

Taste…Certainly full bodied, sweet moving on to a little spice with the hint of peat way in the background, quite a complex dram.

Finish…Long, smooth and spice still showing, an exquisite finish.

That’s another tasting set to record, at this point we all agreed a special dram was just tasted and feel that this one might make it into our next top ten.glenfarclas-distillery

If you cannot visit the Distillery yourself then at least go onto their website for more details about this fabulous Whisky producer.

Not many of these are found in you local shop or supermarket, therefore, you may have to go to your Whisky specialist shop or all travel retail outlets, but check with Glenfarclas via their website and they should be able to supply you with stockists, it is worth the trouble to check this producer out.

As usual tell them the Whisky Boys sent you.

Well done at Glenfarclas a great tasting session with a great wee dram, thanks.
