Crown Royal Whiskey – Limited Edition Blended Canadian Whisky

Crown Royal Whiskey – Limited Edition Blended Canadian Whisky 40% alc./vol

Crown Royal Blended Canadian Whisky and said to be the Jewel of Canada.

This Whisky was created in 1939 to celebrate King George VI and his wife Queen Elizabeth’s visit to Canada.

Jim and Dougie were given a bottle each of this blend on Nicola’s return from a trip to Toronto earlier this year, as we believe it is quite difficult to obtain this brand in the UK, maybe, online might be a place to start looking or indeed take a wee trip over to Canada. (they have loads)

Well, all three of us got down to this tasting, I use the word tasting quite loosely as we used many mixers in this taste session.

This blend is said to contain many batch-distilled whiskies intended to create a rich and smooth taste.

Colour… A very pleasant amber

Taste… We all three were not too keen on this blend straight up, we thought it to be a little harsh for our palates.  Over ice did not improve its flavour.  Ice and a little water did help (as you know Jim and Dougie always drink Whisky with a drop of water)

Nicola’s choice was with ice and ginger ale, and found that to be quite pleasant.

Dougie thought that this blend in his winter golfing hip flask with a teardrop or two of Drambuie.

Jim found that with the addition of ice and coca cola this might be a very fine drink for the summer bbq on the patio, the coke complimenting the subtle vanilla tones he found in this dram.

To sum up this is a very ordinary whisky, we found to be at its best when ice and mixer is added (our favourites were ginger ale and coca cola).  Therefore, if going abroad on holiday don’t be put off buying the likes of Crown Royal or any other well known whisky from the country you are visiting. This one proves that they all cannot be bad or indeed mediocre, this one certainly is not.
